"To Feel Like a Woman Is Not to Be One" - Caribbean Bishops

The Antilles Episcopal Conference published a pastoral letter entitled Pastoral Letter on Sexual and Gender Identity on 26 July (full text below). Main quotes.
- We must resist narratives that suggest the human person is a self-made project, detached from biological reality or moral order.
- The human body is not an accessory to identity.
- The confusion of our times - driven by ideologies that detach the body from identity, treat desire as destiny, and blur sexual difference - compels us to offer the light of the Gospel and the wisdom of Christian anthropology.
- The body is not a barrier to identity but a revelation of it. It is through our male or female embodiment that our unique personhood and our capacity for relationship are revealed.
- It is a scientific fact, not a social construct, that human beings are sexually dimorphic.
- Sex, then, is not arbitrarily 'assigned' at birth; it is determined at conception through the presence or absence of the SRY gene. If activated, the gene …Дагы

The Prisoner Who Returned to Celebrate the Eucharist
On 31 July 2026, Cardinal Ernest Simoni celebrated the Eucharist at the former communist prison camp of Spaç in Albania. There, he spent years imprisoned and subjected to forced labor after his arrest (1963). He remained imprisoned until 1981. In a message for the occasion, Pope Leo XIV wrote that "no prison can separate a person from the love of Christ."

Diocese Ceuta Responds to Invasion by Raising Money for Invaders

The Spanish Diocese of Cádiz and Ceuta has issued a statement expressing concern over the situation in Ceuta following the mass arrival of young male migrants from Morocco.
Its main initiative is to dedicate this weekend's collections in Ceuta's parishes to the Diocesan Migration Office.
The funds will be distributed through the San Antonio Migrant Assistance Center to address the most urgent needs in coordination with the relevant civil authorities.
Meanwhile, videos circulating on social media reportedly show knife attacks, the looting of private homes and supermarkets, and other crimes committed by some of the illegal migrants.

Beach Mass During Jesuits' Retreat
Worse than Germany: A photograph published by Avvenire, the newspaper of the Italian Bishops' Conference, shows a Mass celebrated on the beach during "100 Pinne – Mare e Bibbia," a Jesuit summer retreat founded in 2010.

A Place of Visitation Among Us

A Place of Visitation Among Us - Magnificat USA
Here and now, confronted with the Maestà, we are not in the Louvre admiring art, but doing exactly what Cimabue (c. 1240–1302) meant his viewers to do: contemplating a mystery and praying. This is the first thing to grasp: this image is not primarily a “representation” in the modern sense, but a presence made visible. It does not simply tell a story; it establishes a living relationship. For a moment, then, we need to set aside our instinctive aesthetic admiration and contemplate it in light of its proper purpose.
We can see it as a work poised between the traditional language of the icon and a purely naturalistic style. The gold ground, the frontal pose, the sacred hierarchy are all fully present here. Yet in the construction of the throne, in the modeling of the draperies, in the animation of the faces and the way the gazes are arranged, …Дагы

Cardinal Zuppi Wants "a Mediation" on Euthanasia Legislation. Worse than Germany: Speaking on Luca Zaia's podcast Il Fienile in late July 2026, Cardinal Matteo Zuppi of Bologna, President of the Italian Bishops' Conference, said: "I know well that those who are ill don't wait for the law. There are also regions acting in a fragmented way. Politics should find a mediation. I've met sick people who wanted to leave. In these cases, respect is needed. The only choice you can make is to stay close to those who are suffering, which doesn't mean giving up your principles."

High Altar for Church of FSSP: In September 2025, the stately church of the Immaculate Conception in Lobith, the Netherlands, was already closed. The Priestly Fraternity of Saint Peter (FSSP) acquired the church with the consent of the Archdiocese of Utrecht. Since November, the Mass in the Roman rite has been celebrated there. Dutch priest Paolo D'Angona reports that in recent days, the church received this magnificent high altar from another church that had to be closed.

Poland to Inaugurate Europe's Tallest Marian Statue: On August 15, the Feast of the Assumption, Poland will consecrate a 55.6-meter statue of the Virgin Mary in Konotopie, near Toruń, making it the tallest Marian statue in Europe. The project, launched in March 2025, is funded by Polish billionaire Roman Karkosik. Estimated to cost around 100 million zlotys (€22.85 million), local officials hope it will become a major pilgrimage and tourism destination.

Homosex Exhibition Withdrawn from Church

An suggestive exhibition by the Lecoq artists' collective was withdrawn from the church Chapelle du Bourg in Arradon, Bretagne, northwestern France, on 30 July.
The exhibition, titled Le Poulailler 4, was scheduled to run from 27 July to 2 August 2026 and had been organized by the municipality as part of its cultural programme.
It included photographs depicting two men kissing, a man wearing pink underwear in a suggestive pose, a photograph of male buttocks.
Only after complaints about this homosexual propaganda, the municipality proposed that the most controversial photographs either be removed from the chapel or transferred to a nearby municipal exhibition space.
The Lecoq collective declined both proposals and removed the entire exhibition on 30 July, before its scheduled closing date.
Photographer Nikolaz Le Coq stated that he had not considered the photographs to be a profanation of the chapel and said he had [alledgely] not anticipated that they would be perceived in that way.

It appears that there is revived interest in Medjugorje after this week's vandalism of the statue of Blessed Mother. The backstory of Medjugorje included a hoax and was well-researched here:

The Medjugorje Deception — Fidelity Press by E. Michael Jones

It was 5 o'clock in the morning and I was lying in my room at the Silver Legacy casino in Reno, Nevada unable to sleep. I was in Reno to meet the husband of a seer, or rather, the seer's ex-husband. Jeff Lopez moved in with Tonie Alcorn in April of 1987 as the result of an affair they had had when both of them were working Wendy's in Denver, Colorado. In March of 91, shortly after pleading guilty to a charge of check fraud, Tonie, who was then known as Theresa Lopez, went to Medjugorje. By November of 1991 she was having her own apparitions and drawing thousands of people to the Cabrini Shrine near Denver, Colorado. Two years later, Theresa left her husband to become a full-time seer. The last time they were together she told him, "If I get involved with this I can be somebody." Phil Kronzer, the wealthy California businessman who introduced us, had lost his wife to Medjugorje around the time Jeff Lopez had, over the winter of 93- 94. Both of these domestic tragedies began with Medjugorje …

Meet the Americans Who Can’t Afford Hair Cuts or Toilet Paper

Opinion columnist, reporting from Oklahoma, Arkansas, Tennessee and Kentucky
Aug. 1, 2026
After a 1,000-mile road trip across a swath of America, I can’t get one person out of my mind: Trinity Goodman, a cheerful, chatty woman in Oklahoma City who had a bandage on her arm.
The reason for the bandage? Goodman, 44, survives by selling blood plasma twice a week. She had $3.78 in her checking account, one cent in her savings account to keep it open, and six pennies in her piggy bank.
“That’s my full assets,” she said, smiling in mockery of her own poverty.
“Barely making it,” she added. “It’s really hard and it’s miserable.”
She dwells in an America that many of us might have trouble imagining. For five years she staved off homelessness only by staying in the home of a man who was not a romantic partner but who took advantage of her vulnerability, she said, …Дагы
