At the start of the Ukraine War, Russian media claimed that the “Special Military Operation” was necessary to stop an alleged genocide against Russian-speakers in Donbas. This was a propaganda fabrication which people in many countries have believed. A similar claim was made at the start of Russia’s 2008 invasion of Georgia. Russian television also repeats the claim that Russia is fighting fascism in Ukraine. Such claims are in accordance with “chronographic suturing,” in which the past and present are knitted together (as Putin did in his 2001 speech marking the sixtieth anniversary of the German invasion of the USSR). No one seems to remember Gorbachev's quote after the so-called fall of the Soviet Union: "Gentlemen. comrades, do not be concerned about all you hear about Glasnost and Perestroika and democracy in the coming years. They are primarily for outward consumption. There will be no significant internal changes in the Soviet Union, other than for cosmetic purposes. Our purpose is to disarm the Americans and let them fall asleep." As far as I can tell, Putin has never refuted those words. Enough said?

It looks just like the posts in the basement that held up the structure of a modular house I once lived in. It certainly isn't going to support the truths of the faith!
